Virtual wellness sessions available!
What is it? Yoga classes and private yoga for wellness sessions can both be used to promote health and prevention of disease and distress. The difference between the two is that, while yoga is generally shared as a physical group practice, individual yoga for mental health and wellness sessions are custom designed for the individual based on their unique situation and needs. Individual yoga for wellness sessions use both yogic techniques and therapeutic elements from the instructor’s background in psychotherapy. Yoga, especially in private sessions, takes into consideration the complete state of one’s health in terms of physical conditioning, emotional state, energetic balance, attitude, dietary and behavioral patterns, personal associations and relationships, and the environment (Payne, Larry, et, al., 201; Yoga Therapy & Integrative Medicine). Combining mindful and cognitive traditional talk therapies with therapeutic benefits from Yoga results in a greater increase in general well being and restores balance to the entire self.
Who can benefit? These sessions can benefit anyone who experiences stress. Numerous research studies have verified the efficacy of yoga for improving quality of life and addressing conditions like stress, poor sleep patterns, anxiety, depression, trauma, chronic pain, limited mobility, cancer and arthritis among others. It is very important to note that these sessions can be modified to anyone. If you can breathe, you can do yoga. These sessions will focus on your individual needs, and your innate ability to transform and enhance general health and well-being. We design yoga practices personalized for you, which incorporate breath, movement (as available to the individual), and awareness. If mobility allows then sessions will include some physical postures of yoga (done typically on a yoga mat and involving gentle movements including getting up and down off of the floor) however anything that we do can be modified to chair movements and therefore anyone can participate. Yoga helps with increasing vitality and energy; managing stress; relieving chronic pain; improving strength, balance, and flexibility; improving sleep; and benefiting productivity, focus, and attention.
What does it consist of? We will start with an evaluation that includes delving into what is going on with the individual and what they hope to gain. After we evaluate we will work on action steps that will guide you to where you want to be. We will be focused on improving your total well being; emotionally, physically, spiritually and more. We will look at all parts of your being, evaluate what’s going on now and what you want to work on improving. You will receive an individualized plan that includes the use of breathing practices meditations, affirmations, lifestyle recommendations along with some physical moves that will benefit your individual needs. You do not have to have any experience with yoga or be flexible you just need an open mind and a willingness to feel better.
Why is this different than a yoga class? The instructor combines her training in yoga, meditation, mindfulness and her training in psychotherapy to bring you an experience that is unique and designed for you. Your insurance may cover these sessions. These services are offered by Jamie L. Summer’s Stacks, LPC/LADAC who is a Registered Yoga Teacher (200 hr RYT). Jamie has been practicing and studying yoga for years and strives to live a yogic lifestyle as defined in the eight limbs of yoga.
Investment? Individual sessions are $200 for 50-60 minutes. Sessions are held virtually.
